I truly hope there's nobody reading this page that
doesn't worship at the altar of The Kinks. If you're an unbeliever, get out now.
(I mean that. Now!) OK, if you're still here, I hereby give you permission to
check out an interview with the band's original bassist, Pete Quaife. It got me wishing
Pete would write his own book about The Kinks' experience. I get the feeling it
would be the most straight-ahead view available. If you've ever heard Drop
Out With The Barracudas you'll understand why I'm so nuts about them. On the
Noise For Heroes web-site, Steve Gardner has posted a beautifully long, detailed
interview with Jeremy
Gluck. In there, you'll find just about everything you ever wanted to know
about The
Barracudas. (The latter page, by the way, includes a link to a
terrific tale of one of the band's journeys written by Gluck himself.)
PopNet has a short interview with The Sex Clark Five
where at least half the time they're joking around to the point you're not sure
if reality exists. Rather entertaining.
The Fleshtones Hall of Fame includes an
interview with drummer Bill Milhizer and vocalist Peter Zaremba, as well as tons
more info about the band.
Back in September, Gary "Pig" Gold contributed
yet another genius article to the virtual pages of In Music We Trust with The Kinks Invented
Alternative-Kountry.
I usually like to give direct links to the
interviews I list in this section, but Nardwuar's Menu Page has links to a
whole bunch of stuff he's done. I'd originally planned to just mention one of
the newer ones (with Henry Rollins), but you'll be so much happier if you look
thru his list, bookmark the page and keep coming back. (The Rollins interview is
currently right up top with a picture.)
Here's another cool article on The
Outsiders. Considering that they did a reunion tour a year or so back, I
wish they'd try it just one more time and bring it my way. Hmm... Jon Weiss,
howzabout hooking something like that up for the next Cave Stomp?
Check out
the Nuggets Chat
with Dick Dodd (Standells), Mark Lindsay (Raiders) and Kim Fowley. For What It's
Worth, indeed! You can also hear anthologist Lenny Kaye talk about Nuggets on
the Fresh Air site by clicking on this link and choosing
10/15/98.
OK, it's not exactly an article. Better yet, really, 'cuz it's three songs by The Woggles
in Real Audio, including two live tracks - Ramadan Romance and Tear Me Down - as
well as Sweet Tea (from the CD).
