The Beat Goes On
Kurt Wood has left his place behind the drumkit of The King's
English. The parting was amicable and the band marches on... Something
similar happened with The Dark Marbles. Dave Rhoden
(also of The Hi-Balls) left the group on good terms and was replaced by former
Defiler John Pardo... Reports from London indicate that Graham and Allan from
The Prisoners have joined forces with drummer Simon Howard (an early member of
the James Taylor Quartet) to form The Solar Flares...
After a brief year back together, The Fuzztones have
once again called it quits. The Cult of
Fuzz reports that the band's final show was in late August. Of course, only
a couple months later, he reunited for a one-night performance with the NYC
line-up for a set at Cave Stomp '98. (And, yes, there are still girls screaming
for him.) Elan Portnoy told me the group had spent eight hours a day rehearsing
for the three days leading up to the event, saying, "It was like being in a
cult!" The next day, Deb O'Nair said she'd be into doing more shows! Meanwhile,
as I write this, Rudi's touring Europe backed by The Others and is said to be
looking for new members... Who are The Sins, you ask?
Well, take The Original Sins, subtract bassist Kenny Bussiere (who now lives
down in Orlando, Fla.), and throw in Chris from The Creatures of the Golden Dawn
and you've got it. They're playing all the old Original Sins' material, so I
strongly suggest you check 'em out... Eric Oblivian reports that he's got a new
group together with King Louie and Jay Reatard called The Bad
Times. He describes it as "punk/beat mania." He also tells me that
ex-Gories' drummer Peggy O'Neill has been playing in a band with Matt from The
Royal Pendletons. If anyone knows the name or has more info, please let me know.
