It seems like every time I get around to doing a new issue of this 'zine, there's something new to say about The Real Kids. The band played two nights in a row at Coney Island High's Cyclone Room back in September. Both shows were jam-packed and the boys were giving it all they had. Tina "Boom Boom" Lucchesi of The Trashwomen, etc. was in attendance both nights and managed to snag the set list the first evening. Thanks to Tina for typing it up for me. Here it is:
  1. BETTER BE GOOD
  2. DO THE BOOB
  3. SOLID GOLD
  4. COMMON AT NOON
  5. RAVE ON
  6. SHE'S ALRIGHT
  7. MY WAY
  8. MY BABY'S BOOK
  9. TAXI BOYS
  10. REGGAE
  11. ALL KINDSA GIRLS
  12. WHO NEEDS YOU
The next night was much the same, but with Just Like Darts and one or two others added. What more can be said but that these guys are still a rock'n'roll force to be reckoned with?

What made it especially cool was that only a minute percentage of the audience had seen the band back in the 70s, and an only slightly larger bunch saw them in their brief time back together in '92. Most of the audience hadn't even been hanging out at that point. It's a testament to both their incredible recordings and all the hard work of Norton Records that almost everyone in the crowd was singing along and going completely insane.

I got a chance to talk to John Felice for a bit and I told him they ought to do this more often. He said he can't imagine how they wouldn't after seeing this kind of response! For that matter, he told me they were seriously considering doing a new record! Imagine, 20 years after their only album together, the original lineup doing their second LP? Mind-blowing!

In November sometime, I got a message from a friend in Michigan telling me The Real Kids were playing near him that night. I found out later from Billy Miller that it was actually John Felice backed by members of Unnatural Axe, which made me wonder what happened. They also just played out in SF the weekend before Christmas. (No idea if it was the original lineup or the UA one.) It is my understanding, tho', that the group's next show - on New Year's Eve at Coney Island High's Cyclone Room again - will be the original lineup again.

It just might happen again!
