Blair's 60 Second Swinger

New Discs, El Peeze, and Swingin' 7"ers:

It's been awhile since we last heard from The Insomniacs, but November saw the release of their latest 45, "Guilt Free"/"Mud In Your Eye" on Estrus Records. I've been listening to this one constantly and it's easily the best 7"er to date.

The second full-length by Mondo Topless, Get Ready For Action, has been ished by Dionysus. In September, the label also released The Surf Teens "Surf Mania." Then, in October, "Bitchin'" from Johnny Legend and The Fiends' "Gravedigger." Plus, they've put out Perverella on video. It's a Josh Collins film "starring Sexton Ming, Ron Drand (shhh...drummer from a very cool band), and others, with costumes by Babzotica (aka Babs from The Diaboliks) and guest appearences by The Diaboliks and Thee Headcoats. (...) the only Rock and Rolling Victorian, Erotic Horror movie ever made!"

MuSick Recordings has a new roots/rockabilly label, called FUEGO Records. That imprint has released The Crank-Tones Vibrate with... (CD only). This is a Rockabilly trio from Boston, MA featuring members of The Fathoms. By the way, MuSick is also carrying cool stuff from other labels in their mail-order catalog now, so ask about that stuff, too.

Ronnie Fujiyama of The 5,6,7,8s has a 45 out, "Coney Island"/"New York Groove" (Scratch Records).

Write to Screaming Apple for their catalog and more info on their latest, which includes The Screamin' Furys' 7" "Comin' round", The Cheeks' LP/CD "Have some real fun...", the LP version of The Decibels' fantastic "Create Action", a single by The Dukes of Hamburg called "It's My Fault," one more LP from The Kwyet Kings, entitled "Been Where? Done What?" and a Big Bobby & the Nightcaps LP called "Big Bobby Rocks..." (plus a 7"er called "Not The Same.")

The Hefners have a new 7"er out there entitled Hefner Style (Terciopelo Records). That should keep you sated till they bring on the main course, a full disc done with Tim Kerr at the knobs due out in January or February.

Rock Like a Motherf**ker (Rockin' Bones) is a new comp LP with The Boss Martians, The Mystery Action, and The Boss Martian-ettes all doing their fave covers. The latter two groups are making their debuts on this slab. Artwork's by Merinuk.

If you've got any musical taste at all, you know that The Creation were one of the best bands of the 1960s. Well, The new Creation Complete Collection (Retroactive) is actually two discs (with 20 tracks on each). 16 of the tracks included have never been released before. This collection includes every known recording by the band, as well as rare alternate takes in true stereo, five live tracks (from German TV), and a previously undiscovered studio instro. The booklets are 16 pages with notes by Mike Stax and a bunch of never before seen photos courtesy of band member Bob Garner.

Ultra Chicks Vol. 3 is now available. For those unfamiliar with the series, it focuses on 60s girly pop and ye ye. While the first two volumes were only French girls, this latest has songs in Italian, German, Spanish, and even English. They're distributed thru Get Hip.

As per... well, ALWAYS, Sundazed has a ton of cool new releases. This includes discs from The Buckinghams, Bruce & Terry, and The Clee-Shays, 7"ers from The Spiders, Chesterfield Kings, Lyres, Something Wild, The Deacons, The Fuzztones, and The Moviees, plus 180gm vinyl-only editions from The Sonics, Kings Verses, and The Road Runners.

Adam West have been rather busy. They've got a split 7"er out with The Candy Snatchers (who cover Teenage Head's "Picture My Face"); the Adam West/BellRays split 7" has Adam West covering Cream's "SWLABR," while The Bellrays take on The Saints' "Night In Venice;" meanwhile, they're also working on their 13 Deluxe CD. Also, the label they run, Fandango Records, is working with Nomad Records to co-release 4-song 7" EP by the Crums, a garage band from Virginia Beach that features Candy Snatchers singer Larry May on vocals.

One of the great bands of our time is The Original Sins. As most of you know by now, the band called it quits last January when bassist Ken Bussiere moved down to Orlando, Florida. Well, one final disc - recorded live at a friend's wedding - is here for us to remember them by. This one's called Rhythm & Booze. It features the following track listing: Turn You On, Anyway You Want It (by the Dave Clark Five), Surfin' Worm, Like No Other Man (The Sonics), Head Held High (VU), Constellation, Goin' Down, Sorrow/Rain (Merseys/Beatles), Whole Wide World (Wreckless Eric), Later Than You Think, Enemy, Shake (Shadows of Knight), Mary Mary (The Monkees), Beast In Me, Money (Barrett Strong), Do Ya (The Move), Get Right Back, Get Down Tonight (KC & the Sunshine Band). If you want one, send a check or m.o. for $10 to John Terlesky at 323 W. Packer Ave. Apt C, Bethlehem, PA 18015 or find out more at Dan's House. Of course, this isn't to say this is really the final Sins' disc. After all, this is a group with tons of stuff in the can. Plus, they seem to be continuing on with a new bassist as just "The Sins" (they're playing Maxwells in Hoboken on Friday December 4th with The Insomniacs & The Woggles).

The DM3 have a new one out called Rippled Soul (Citadel). I've yet to hear it, but reports say that it's got a darker feel, a bit like The Stems without the fuzz, possibly 'cuz ex-Stems' bassist Julian Mathews has joined the fold.

The Dictators have formed their own label and secured the rights to both Bloodbrothers and the ROIR cassette. (And they've released both on disc!)

Check out Del-Fi's New Releases page for info on some of their latest, including 3-CD box sets by the Bobby Fuller Four and Ritchie Valens.

Contact Crypt for the best pricing I've seen on Teenage Shutdown (reports say $49.50 (+$3.50 postage) for the 5 CDs, but I'd contact them at the link shown here). In case you're unaware, there are five new volumes. The titles are as follows: I'm Down Today, The World Ain't Round It's Square, Teen Jangler Blowout!, Get A Move On, and Teen Rockers.

Any US stores interested in picking up The Diodes (Sony Music, Canada) re-ish CD can contact Isotope Music, Canada, 905-333-3001 (ph) and 905-637-2631 (fax). It's got 25 tracks (5 previously unreleased) and a 12 page booklet. For the art, check out the Ralph web site. For that matter, you can find out more about the band there, plus buy some of Ralph's own recordings.

Looking for the It's A Kave-In CD (wild Australian 60's bands)? E-mail Peter Markmann for more info.

Double Crown Records has released a new Untamed Youth 7"er, "Since You Went Away"/"Come On Down To My Boat." Meanwhile, Deke Dickerson has released Number One Hit Record on Hightone.

Blood Red Battle Royale is a comp disc on Blood Red Vinyl and Discs with tracks by The Fleshtones, Woggles, Girl Trouble, The Hatebombs, The Hentchmen, The Royal Pendletons, The Silver Kings, the Surf Trio and others. Look for it.

Through The Mysts of Time: Rarities 1978-81 is a comp of gems by The Barracudas. Here's a review.

The Fabulous Itchies' debut disc, Here Come The Fabulous Itchies A Go-Go (Big Dummy) is now available for $10 post-paid. Send cash or money order (sorry, no checks) to Ty Jesso, PO Box 28605, Providence, Rhode Island, 02908. What does this bunch sound like? Well, the current description is "Wild Wild Wild Twisting Go-Go Action!"
