NKVD Goodbye The word has come down
from NKVD Records chief Steve
Gardner (also known as the brains behind one of the best 'zines I've ever been
lucky enough to read, Noise For Heroes) that it's become obvious that he doesn't
have the time to devote to his label to make it really work. His decision,
however, does not mean he's out of stock. Here's what Steve had to say...
I'm reaching the conclusion that I don't have time to run NKVD properly.
So I need to get rid of all my stock...I didn't get these CDs pressed up to sit
in my garage; I think they are all great and should be heard. So here's the
deal. If you live in the U.S., you can send me $2 and I'll send you THREE NKVD
CDs. The $2 pays for the cost of book rate postage and the mailer I put the CDs
into. The CDs are basically FREE. If you want all 6, send me $4. (I can only
get 3 CDs in the packages I use.)
If you don't live in the US, send me an
e-mail and I'll tell you what postage costs to where you live.
The NKVD titles are:
- The Violence Inherent In The System - compilation of European punk/garage bands from the late 80s
- Exploding White Mice - Collateral Damage - Aussie Birdman/MC5/Ramones/Beach Boys hybrid
- Jalla Jalla - Crumelur plus first vinyl lp on one CD. Finnish garage pop at its best
- The Gamma Men - Driving Music San Diego band influenced by Radio Birdman, the Saints and 70s UK punk. Covers of Harmony In My Head and Search and Destroy among 19 others.
- Hitmen 3 - Bubbling Under brilliant Finnish punk band that's half Buzzcocks, half early Wire and burning with energy
- The Gamma Men - 440 the third and best CD.
Here's the address:
NKVD Records / PO Box 60369 / San Diego, CA 92166
Note: I don't consider this an advertisement... Rather, it's a service to
you, Dear Reader. How so? Well, in my opinion, these things are all damn great
discs. And the price Steve's asking is a steal.
