Other Stuff To
quote the creators, Searchin' For Shakes "is
a Microsoft Access 97 database containing track listings and release information
for the hundreds of various artist compilations that focus on 60's garage and
psychedelic rock. is a downloadable database of 60s comps..." The Chesterfield Kings have been
ultra-busy of late. They're extremely busy recording (with a couple new 7"
offerings out and a new LP on the way) and they've revived their old Living Eye
label (distributed by Sundazed). They've
also built their own studio. Between the label and the studio, bassist Andy
Babiuk says they'll have excellent resources to work with cool bands they'd like
people to hear... The Gants did a reunion in Michigan
this Fall. Reports say they were damn good, too... Lotsa people out there are
always looking for 60s
Vintage Portable Turntables. Well, Busy Kids has 'em! Yeah, I know they're
no longer in the record biz, but they appear to still be selling these (and some
cool old clocks, too!)... As some of you know, one of the bands that blew me
away back in the Second Coming of The Strip (when the shows were downstairs at
Flannery's) was a group called The Belmondos. These Massachusetts boys were
nothing short of amazing, combining Artie Sneiderman's full-bodied voice with
sax, keys, and rockin' guitar action. Sadly, the only recording the guys ever
did was one demo tape. Talk about true crime stories! Well, Artie's back, this
time with a group called The Crybabies that also
includes guitarist Steve Aquino (of The Lyres)... The Boss Martians have signed an
official endorsement deal with Fender Musical Instruments! Meanwhile, their
"close" buddies, The Mystery Action, have signed an
exclusive contract with MuSick Recordings
and are working on their debut disc... Ramones: Around the
World is a 71-minute film culled from over 100 hours of footage shot by
none other than Marky Ramone between 1987 and 1996...The
Slickee Boys will once again be doing their Christmas reunions at the 930
Club in DC and the 8X10 in Baltimore. However, there appears to be a strong
possibility that this may be the final hurrah... Former members of both The
Shadows of Knight and Them have been talking (and possibly have done so by now)
about forming a group called The Shadows of Them. The
way I see it, this can only be 100 times better than Jim Sohns' current bunch
posing as the Shadows of Knight... For those wondering about the fate of bands
who were signed to 360 Twist: Frigg A Go-Go have ended
up with Scooch Pooch; The Hate Bombs (last I heard) were close to a deal with
Dionysus and are hoping for a February release. More as it comes in. (By the
way, those guys are supposed to be in Flipside #115.) It's possible 360 Twist
may still have a catalog available listing what they've got left to sell. Try
e-mailing them at this address... The
Makers are evidently making videos. Three were shot by J. Michael McCarthy (of
Sore Losers fame) while on tour this fall. These include "Lover Lover,"
"Psychotropic Supergirl" and "Are You On The Inside or the Outside of Your
Pants?"... Guitarist David Rhoden tells meThe Hi-Balls
"are just now getting back together with a new line-up that includes a bass
player(!). Unfortunately, Alan will not be back in December (...) We now expect
him back in May. I hope to be playing before then, either as a 3-piece or with
a guest lead player."
