SCOTS Equipment Stolen
As I stated in the intro, these are press releases from the band's management. It is my hope that one of you reading this will be able to help the band locate their stolen equipment. Please note that there are two separate press releases reprinted here because these are two separate events.
GUITARS STOLEN IN SAN FRANCISCO, REWARD OFFERED!!!
[Nov 2, 1998] This just in from SCOTS' management. Please help if you can.
Southern Culture on the Skids played two shows at Slim's in San Francisco
on October 20 and 21. Sometime between the end of the first night's show
and the beginning of the second night's show, two of the band's guitars
were stolen from the stage.
A reward of $1,000.00 is being offered for the return of the stolen 1956
Gretsch Country Club hollow-body electric guitar. (Please note, the missing
guitar is a Country Club not a Country Gentleman as reported earlier.) The
instrument is cadillac green, features a Bigsby tailpiece and a Bigsby
bridge on a leather base, and was in a grey Gretsch case. The serial number
is 20523. The guitar is very distinctive in that the model number inside
the guitar, 6196, originally mistakenly had a "0" as its second digit. That
"0" was corrected to a "1" by hand at the factory, making this a
one-of-a-kind, readily identifiable guitar. The serial number and model
number can both be seen by looking through the top F-hole to the inside of
the guitar.
Also stolen was a Jerry Jones four-string electric bass guitar. It is a
copper-burst longhorn model in a black plastic case. An additional reward
of $500.00 is offered for the return of this bass.
Both rewards are offered on a "no questions asked" basis and are available
to anyone that either returns the guitars safely or provides information
leading to their safe recovery. Anyone with information of any kind is
asked to contact Dave Viecelli at:

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated as these guitars are of
tremendous sentimental value to Rick and Mary and cannot be replaced.

MORE GUITARS STOLEN IN SALT LAKE CITY, MORE REWARDS OFFERED!!!
Southern Culture on the Skids were once again victimized by thieves
following their performance at Salt Lake City's Zephyr Club on Wednesday,
October 28.
A reward of $500.00 is being offered for the return, or information leading
to the safe recovery, of the stolen 1958 Gibson Les Paul Jr. The guitar has
no serial number and has been stripped to its natural mahogany finish with
the exception of the black-painted headstock. Stick-on letters on the
headstock spell "RICK" and the same type of letters on the body spell
"BOOGIE MACHINE". It has one P-90 pick-up, a tortoise-shell pick guard and
was last seen in a black plastic case.
Also stolen was a 1971 Fender Precision bass guitar. This instrument shows
a lot of wear, including some moisture damage, and has a small chunk of
wood missing from the top of the body horn. The serial number is 396262 and
the original cream color has turned to yellow. The finish has been worn
down to bare wood on the back and there is an oval of glue residue there
from a removed sticker. It has a tortoise-shell pick guard and was last
seen in a black plastic case as well. An additional reward of $500.00 is
being offered for the return of this bass or for information leading to its
safe recovery.
Both guitars were last seen in the possession of a white male in his late
twenties, approximately 5'9"" and 185 pounds, with short black hair worn in
a rockabilly style. He also wore jeans and black horn-rimmed glasses and
appears to have exited the venue through a rear door that was usually
alarmed. Any information regarding this person would be very much
appreciated. His description as well as all of the relevant details of this
case are on file with the Salt Lake City Police Department (case number
98214002). Yet another reward of $1,000.00 is offered for information
leading to the arrest and conviction of this person.
All rewards are offered on a "no questions asked" basis and are available
to anyone that either returns the guitars safely or provides information
leading to their safe recovery and/or the arrest and conviction of the
perpetrator. Anyone with information of any kind is asked to contact Dave
Viecelli at:
