Blair's 60 Second Swinger

In The Works:

Tons of new stuff coming by The Boss Martians. This includes a new LP out on Dionysus, as well as EPs on both Misty Lane and Screaming Apple.

Speaking of Dionysus, one of the other labels in their fold, Bacchus Archives has a pretty busy release schedule. In January, they've got The Gearz Rockin' At Ground Zero LP/CD. In February, a Phil & The Frantics CD with new liner notes, lotsa photos, and a new remastering job. In addition, they'll have Kim Fowley's Outlaw Superman Pt. 2. In addition they've got some more stuff in the works, including Rare LA Tracks (R&B stuff, '58-'63), an untitled disc by The Rhythm Rockers (instros from '63), a comp called Seeds Turn To Flowers Turn To Dust ("obscure psych from the garage, '66-'68"), and another called The Tucson Sound '60-'68 (a re-release of the LP with more tracks, photos, and liner notes).

Keep your eyes peeled for a split 7"er by The Full Time Men and The Master Plan on Blood Red Vinyl. No, The Master Plan won't have "What's Up With That" included. Why? 'Cuz Adny Shernoff's other band, the mighty Dictators, are cuttin' it for their next full-length, which will also include Who Will Save Rock and Roll?, The Savage Beat, I Am Right!!, The Moronic Inferno, Channel Surfing, and I'm Your Man. DFFD!!!

The Hefners spent a few days in October down at the Sweatbox with Tim Kerr, working on their debut LP/CD. It's definitely coming out on Middle Class Pig in Germany, tho' last I heard they were still unsure of who'd be releasing it here in the US of A.

The Fandango and Nomad record labels are working on a Radio Birdman tribute album. Some of the bands that have been invited to contribute include: the Candy Snatchers, Resin Scraper, Hellacopters, Gluecifer, Turbonegro, Adam West, Black Market Baby, and Electric Frankenstein.

Word has it that Scooch Pooch has a double live LP/CD by 9 Lb. Hammer (recorded Fall '94 at the Vera in Holland) due out sometime this month.

The Minstrels next cd Psychotropic R&B will be out in stores around Dec/Jan. Reports say that it's yet another fine release from the boys, keeping the 60s feel yet giving it a fresher feel than some more 60s-focused groups. Plus, they sing in French again!

MuSick should have their Ventures' tribute Swingin' Creepers ready by the end of the year. Liner notes are by Ted Miller of Satan's Pilgrims and Davy Pecket of New Gandy Dancer magazine. Bands included are The Space Cossacks, The Fathoms, Eddie Angel w/The Omega Men, The Quiets, The Volcanos, The Exotics, The Penetrators, The Hypnomen, The Cave 4, The Boss Martians, Jon & the Nightriders, The Sir Finks, The Bomboras, Fortune & Maltese and the Phabulous Pallbearers, Davie Allan & the Arrows, the Saturn V, The Tiki Tones, the Looney Tunes, The Mystery Action, The Vice Royals, Satan's Pilgrims, The Huntington Cads and Ivan Pongracic (of the Space Cossacks) with Ed Abolins and Eric Ebeling (of the Omega Men).

Look for a Bobby Fuller Four tribute coming out of Japan called Our Favorite Texan.

One topic I kept bringing up over the months Jon Weiss was calling to ask questions in re Cave Stomp '98 was that of his former group, The Vipers. The group was around throughout a good portion of the 80s and ruled the NYC garage roost in their heyday. In that time, they released a couple singles, two LPs, and a few tracks on comps, as well as recording a ton of material at their 4-track studio, The Nest. Well, I wanted Jon to get the band together to play the fest he was putting on, but he put the kibosh on that particular idea. However, he did mention that Collectables Records wants to do a Vipers' CD. I think this is gonna include both albums, plus stuff from a flexi or two. Personally, I'd prefer they took the whole first one, a fair amount of the second, put the 45s on, then take some stuff from the Cryptic Vaults tape. (Like "Tricks Are For Kids," for instance.) But at this point, I'd be happy just to see Outta The Nest available to a new generation. And I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the group would at least reform for a CD release party.

Half A Cow Records is working on a compilation of material by The Eastern Dark.

Teen Sound/Misty Lane is working on a whole host of stuff, including EPs by The Saturn V Featuring Orbit (4 tracks) and a folk-garage Italian group called The Rookies. Throw in a 7" by a UK garage bunch called The Hoodwinks and they're all set on the snack platter front. They've also got a couple buffets in the works. First, a surf comp LP called Themes for Bathing Beauties with The Boss Martians, Sir Finks, Girl Bombs, Bradipos IV, Royal Knightmares, Treblemakers and more. Also an as yet untitled garage comp. Throw in a Wisconsin 60s garage comp called Badger A Go-Go and they're set for sonic action.

The Spaceshits were supposed to have a split out with The Deadly Snakes some time ago, but the word is that it got misplaced at the distributor, so it's expected sometime this month (just in time for you to stuff someone's stocking ;-), Meanwhile, come the new year, they'll have a 13-songer comin' out called Misbehavin'.
