Zines On The Scene:
Bang! Bang! Buzz! #3 is now out
featuring an interview with The Improbables, as well
as a whole lot more. I know I've mentioned it in the last couple editions,
but I don't want anyone to miss out on my favorite e-mail e-zine, the Orgie
Newsletter (now up to #44!), which can be obtained by e-mailing Jeroen Vedder and asking him to put
you on his list. It comes out every time he feels like putting it together
(pretty damn often, actually); it doesn't take long to read through; and Jeroen
tells you exactly what he thinks. Here's a guy who has great taste in
rock'n'roll.
Noises From The
Garage #8 is out with articles/interviews with/on The Crusaders, The
Satelliters, The Splash Four, The Satelliters, The Hookers, The B Movie Rats,
The Fells, The Quadrajets, Turbonegro, The Idyls, The Waistcoats, The Kaisers,
The Mullens, The Boss Martians, The Fathoms, The Space Cossacks, Johnny Chan and
the New Dynasty Six, The Frantic Flattops, and Jack Black. If you don't feel
like e-mailing Brian at the link above, then just send $2 (for those in the US)
to Brian Marshall, Noises from the Garage, 8811 Rue Riviera, Apt. 3A,
Indianapolis, IN 46226.
Always an interesting read, Scram #8 features the
"Archies, true life tales of ritzy apartment management and medical
experimentation, the Apples in Stereo, '60s teen-dream Jackie DeShannon, how the
Beau Brummels invented country-rock, Dennis Eichhorn's talk with renegade Zappa
sideman Jeff Simmons, a visit to the world's biggest snacking trade fair." Look
around in stores or send $5 postpaid (cash or check payable to Kim Cooper) to
POB 461626, Hollywood, CA 90046-1626. By the way, they've also got their own
Delphi forum you can congregate at.
Make
Room is, as always, a damn fine read. #10 brings you tons of coolness,
including interviews with Mick Collins, The Neckbones, and Lisa from The
Wiretaps. Contact Case with questions or send
$1 to 3118 Keller; Temple, TX 76504.
Micromag #10 features "interviews
with Mike Stax (of Ugly Things and The Loons), The Untamed Youth, The Hate
Bombs, The Swingin' Neckbreakers and The Weird Lovemakers, as well as a run down
of Treblefest, Record Reviews, live show photos, and all the other columns."
It's $2/post paid per ish or $6 for the last four. Micromag, PO Box 442337,
Lawrence KS 66044.
Trash Times #4
is out and features "Lightning Beat-Man, 60s Windy City Punk King Louie/
Persuaders, CUFF 98 (Chicago Underground Film Festival), and tons of movie and
music reviews." It's $2 in the US or $4 everywhere else. Trash Times, POB 248,
Glenview IL 60025 USA.
Off the paper and onto the screen, check out On The Go-Go. So far
the most interesting part is the live section, with a nice variety of material
(from The Corn Sisters to The Woggles with a whole lot more, too), tho' they say
they're working on other stuff. (I'm hardly one to complain, as it takes me a
few months to get even this little 60 Second Swinger thing updated, never mind
The Teen Scene!)
Th' Swingin' Creeper has interviews with Deke Dickerson, Josh
"SHAG" Agle and former members of Something Wild, plus articles on the Mummies,
Paul Revere and the Raiders and 60's guitars. 40 pages long, $2 post-paid to th'
Swingin' Creeper,1232 Beverly Way, Sacto, CA 95818. Or e-mail them for more info.
Finally, a
nod to one of the absolute BEST web-zines out there. Cosmik Debris is a monthly that covers many
styles of music, but has a definite love of much of the same material I do. The
December issue has an interview with Dick Taylor of The Pretty Things, as well
as Susan Yasinski of Susan and the Surf-Tones.
